I want to share my first book with you AS I WRITE IT.

Please give me feedback in the comments.
Thanks for visiting,
So, I’ve been writing for months and months, but I haven’t posted any of my recent material for a very long time. I got brave and decided to post some of the stuff I’ve been working on. Please remember this is still a first draft, and some things will definitely be changing still, but I’ve learned a lot as a writer and I’m feeling confident (enough) in my most recent story direction and writing to post it here.
Though I haven’t updated the PDFs, you’ll notice that Ch1: Birth and what used be called Ch 2: Running, are now combined into one chapter. The text in those pdfs still reads as Ch 1 and Ch 2, but I’ve updated the title names in the menu on the right to indicate the changes in the current book. I’ve also posted 6 whole new previously unseen chapters and 2 bonus chapters! Sorry if they don’t make sense, as some of them were written nearly a year ago, and some were written as recently as today.
To learn more about the samples and “Bonus Chapters” click here to read a description of what that means.
As always, please give me constructive feedback. Thanks ya’ll,
I’m writing this more for myself that for anybody reading this right now, since literally nobody reads these. I’ve actually written close to 40-50k words in my book! Probably about 20k of them are even half decent!
I am still not posting any more work up on this site until I’m sure that I’ve got the story where I want it. But some crazy stuff has been happening in my story. I’m pretty much done with the first act, and will be moving on to the 2nd act shortly. I’ve even written some flashback scenes for other characters in an attempt to fill in their stories and to help get their “voices” for the later chapters. Being in a writing group has really really helped me improve, and I’m getting better at the actual writing part, but I think I’m in that slump where I need to just push through and keep working. I’ve been having a bit of writer’s block.
Anyhoo, now you know. I’m going to be working hard on act 2 and hopefully I’ll finish the book before next summer!
I just wanted to show this really cool infographic that I saw online today. I tried to find the original source other than Yahoo! Movies so that I could properly credit him/her, but I couldn’t.
So, what’d’ya think? The zombies in my story are probably closer to Zombieland zombies (fast, but dumb). However, (SPOILER!) I intend to introduce some really scary 28 Days Later versions too, later in the story. :)
Hey everyone (all two of you)! You may think by my lack of posts that I’ve gone AWOL. But that couldn’t be farther from the truth! To date I haven’t missed a single day of writing for over 2 months straight! YAY.
However, I’ve been hesitant to post updates of new chapters for a few reasons:
Enough excuses! I’ll try to at least blog more regularly from here on. Peace.
First the secular:
Now, the serious:
I have much to be grateful for! I have a wonderful family, a beautiful wife, and I surprisingly won an award for my unfinished book! But the thing I am most grateful for is this:
I know that this is not a religious blog, but I also KNOW that Jesus Christ lives and I am so grateful that through Him, I can one day be Resurrected and live with my family forever. I won’t come back from the dead as a Zombie, but you and I and everyone will come back from the dead with perfect bodies thanks to Jesus Christ! Hey everyone, very quick update. As I’ve been following and learning from various authors on Twitter, I’ve been trying to ask for advice. One Twitter follower recommended Textnovel.com as a place where I can get feedback from like-minded authors and from fans, and possibly even get noticed by publishers.
So, I registered for free and added my first four chapters. Their site is set up so that if you pay them $$, they’ll “feature” your book so that more people will see it. I wasn’t interested in that… yet. But, to my surprise, I was awarded with an Editor’s Choice Award after only 4 days without paying for the promotion (apparently that’s more rare)! I don’t know how common that is, but it sure is humbling and exciting for me!
Check it out by clicking here. Please consider registering for free and upvoting and following my story there too!
Also, they say that while I’m featured as an Editor’s Choice Award winner I should really focus on updating, so I should have some updated chapters both here and on textnovel.com soon!
Guys, remember a while back when I decided to try the productivity/personal goals strategy suggested by Jerry Seinfeld to “not break the chain” in an attempt to get me writing every day?
In late February I gave myself two daily personal goals. One was to write in my book or on my blog. The other was to read at least 1 chapter in the scriptures. I’m happy to say that I’ve done very well:
I only missed two days of scripture reading and only 3 days of writing in my book/blog! Also, I feel it necessary to point out that I was quite sick and in bed on the 12th and 13th.
Here’s to an even better April!
I know it has been a long time since I updated, but I’ve actually been working on the story this whole time. I’ve missed about 2 days in the last 6 weeks where I haven’t written something in my book! That’s pretty good right? Anyway, I’ve decided to update less so that I can make sure I’m comfortable with things before I release new chapters. Otherwise I just keep posting unfinished chapters that need more polish. They all need editing, I understand that (it’s my first time writing a book, remember), but I decided to take the story in a different direction, and so the plot needed some re-working which required more polish before I post new content. Excuses, excuses. I know!
The good news is that I’ve got a much more solid direction with the story and I’m uploading two new chapters today! The weird news is that I revised chapter 3 AGAIN. And a lot. I’m actually going to be removing the old Chapter 3 and adding it to a “rejected chapters” menu or something, so that you can still read it, but the actual up-to-date story will be all in one menu. I’ve even changed the name of chapter three from “Christopher” to “Strangers.”
Chapter 4 has lots of exposition, but I tried to make it light and enjoyable through dialogue, and there are some really interesting revelations about the world Jem is in, and some other cool moments in there as well. I try to have at least one zombie in every chapter, and even the dialogue-heavy Chapter 4 called “What Happened” has one! You’ll officially find out why Christopher calls them “Burgers” too.
Read the new chapters by clicking on the menu on the right or on the links below. Please and thank you.
